Homemade Insect Repellent

Main Ingredients:

1) Dry/Fresh Herbs

2) Essential Oils

3) Water

4) Witch Hazel or ACV (Apple Cider Vinegar or White)

5) Rubbing Alcohol or White Liquor (high proof)

6) Jar (for storage) OR Glass Spray Bottle (immediate use)

 

*You can choose to use all fresh/dry herbs or you can use all essential oils.

I prefer to mix herbs and oils for mine shown in the images below :

 

Recipe:

*Yields approx 1 QT

  • 2 c. water
  • 1/2 c. ACV or Witch Hazel
  • 20-30 drops of each essential oil used
  • 2-3 tbsp. of fresh/dry herbs used
  • 3 tbsp. of alcohol (for storage ONLY)

 

BEST OILS: Eucalyptus, Clove, Peppermint, Citronella, Lemongrass, Cinnamon, Rosemary, Lavender

BEST HERBS: Clove, Cinnamon, Catnip, Lavender, Lemongrass, Lemon Fruit, Garden Mint, Peppermint, Thyme, Rosemary, Sage

 

Directions:

  1. Bring water to boil, add herbal mix and simmer for 10-15 min.
  2. Strain herbs out and cool for 5 min.
  3. Add ACV or Witch Hazel and cool for 5 more min.
  4. After mix has cooled, stir and add alcohol.

NOTE ***ONLY IF YOU’RE STORING SHOULD YOU ADD ALCOHOL***

 

WHAT I USED:

  • 1 whole lemon
  • Dry/Fresh Herb Blend – lemongrass, cinnamon, rosemary & catnip
  • Essential Oil – eucalyptus
  • ACV
  • White Rum (because I’m storing it for future use)
